Black friday discounts are too tempting so I am upgrading my PC earlier than expected...

I bought an ASUS STRIX GTX1060 so I am trying to get everything to work around it. So far I am keen on these:

Processor - RYZEN 7 EIGHT CORE 1700X 3.80GHZ (SOCKET AM4)
MOBO - ROG STRIX B350-F AMD B350 (SOCKET AM4) DDR4 ATX
RAM - VENGEANCE LPX 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHZ
OR
VULCAN T-FORCE 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHZ

I have a Scythe Ashura cooler but not sure whether to get an upgrade to something like a Corsair Hydro Series H60.

Power wise, I have a 500W PSU, do I need a new one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

500w is probably enough to power a 1700/1700x and 1060. But, what PSU do you have?

As linked in the baskets above, if you slightly change your order you can get 3 free games from ASUS. The 3200mhz RAM (Samsung B-die) will perform better on Ryzen, but BIOS updates might now mean that the 3000mhz would also run at its rated speeds. Ryzen does definitely benefit in a big way from faster RAM with lower CL timings.

Thanks for the quotes! That 3200mhz RAM kit looks pretty nice. I have a Corsair CX500 which is getting on 4 years old now. Cooling I should be fine you think?

Assuming you have the 'green CX500', I would recommend replacing that PSU to be honest. It wasn't a very high quality unit to begin with, and is now well out of warranty.

2 potential options:
