Ok so i have a 5820k not overclocked and my pc has not been upgraded in a good few years now.
I've not been keeping up with new tech.
So we use the pc for general household work. Web surfing, emails ect. I do game a bit but not as much as i did. I want to get back into it.
I have a budget of up to £1500. I don't need a psu. My pc is watercooled from my overclocking days but i won't want to overclock now so i'll be going for a good aircooling.
I know i won't want a killer rig ect but i do like to get the best i can.
I've always used intel but if AMD is better now i'm open. More cores would be good
So please give me ideas on what to go for.
I'll need a nice case too as i have an old TJ07 which is too big now

I'd probably stick with your current PC for the time being as it seems fine for what you use it for and maybe just try and pick up an RTX 30**FE GPU to replace the R9 390.

I need a Mb with at least 6 outside usb connections
Good cases give up to 4 front USB3 ports.
Though that needs board with two headers. (2 ports per header)
Which can be used also for adding ports into rear.

Though for low bandwidth devices using hub from one port would be fine.
Also boards typically have 2 USB2 headers for 4 ports.
There should be similar rear brackets available for them.
Also in cases with 5.25" bays there are front panels with USBs.

Not so great bundle, when lot better chipset cooler design board and faster memory can be gotten for almost same.

Fair point, could OP use his DDR4 3000 or not a good move?

worth trying, shouldn't be massively slower, and prob got better timings
must admit i didn't notice any difference moving from LPX DDR4 3000 when I got the i9, but have heard Ryzens are more mem speed dependent.
@vectisitch .... you can nab 12 core Ryzen 5900x's for £469 ... maybe its the way to go if the gpu isn't eating up all your budget?

Thanks guys. I decided on the following.

Just building it all up now.
I'm using one of my RX580 8Gb cards in it for now until gpu prices come down. I did choose a gigabyte mb but they were out of stock with no ETA
