Upgrade advise - i7-8700 to what?

Hi all,

Current pc spec is:

Intel Core i7-8700
GIGABYTE B360 AORUS GAMING 3 WIFI
32gb Corsair DDR4-2666
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
Corsair HX1000 PSU

I think it's time for a CPU upgrade - what are my options please?

I believe I'm cpu bottlenecked so just motherboard, CPU and ram I guess as I don't think I can upgrade the CPU much on this board? I think the psu and GPU are ok. Game at 1440p.

Budget not too important but best value for the performance really.

Thanks! That's good, so I'd have an upgrade path which is great. Any recommendations on mobo/ram please?

Big thanks to everyone. So it's looking like I should go for DDR5 6000 C30 ram, B650 board with a 7600/7700 with unless I can find a decently priced 7800X3D - this will give me a bit of a boost with the potential to upgrade to a 9800x3d in the future... perfect

I went to a 5700x last year, which turned out to be more of a sidegrade in real terms. I've just upgraded from that to a 9800X3D (still the 3080) and I'm getting up to 20+ more fps in demanding games. So yeah going AM5 is definitely the right choice.

Wow that's a decent difference.

How much better is the 9800X3D to say the 5700X3D or 9700X?
