I have a diamondback friction, looking to do some upgrades on it as parts are a bit on the older side now.

Looking for a new
bottom bracket
Crank set
Rear derailleur
and perhaps some new wheels as these are quite buckled, tyres aswel if there at the right price. Not in extreme need for these two parts.

Any recommendations? Budget isn't too high perhaps £200 at the very max!, cheaper would be better but obviously still being high quality.
Thanks

Also will be looking to put disk brakes on here at a later date so if you could recommend them too would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I wont be the best to offer upgrade advice but its key to know things like what shifters you have currently as certain ones wont work with certain mechs etc. Its worth posting a pic up with as much info as possible so that the others can help you out.

Also there is a big bike thread which posting in would have gotten a bit more notice.

if you need all that you won't get much for £200 really, a cheap set of wheels are going to set you back £150 to start.

Deore 590 2 piece chainset comes with the BB for £55 on CRC
Deore 592 rear mech assuming you have a shimano shifter £28 on CRC
Double wall rim with eyelets, disc or V rim too.

can the wheels not be trued up at all? How worn is the chain/cassette that is on the bike?

Hello this sounds good.
should have added i wanted to keep front mech to a single speed, is the first chainset you linked single speed?

As i said the wheels will be done at a later date so the £200 really was only for crankset, BB and rear mech. For the person who said £200 wasn't much.

As for the front "cog" (not sure if it is the right term) the cog is actually buckled quite a bit so this is the main problem.

It comes in a triple but you can take the the 44 and 22 tooth cogs off and just run a 32t up front with a 16t rear?

Ideally maybe change to a single ring 32t up front depending on the width of the chain you are using. If it's the wider variety then definitely change the ring.

Not running single at the rear. Is it easy to take off the cogs? As i'm not brilliant with bikes as such

Ah ****, sorry. Had my GF nipping in my ear about ignoring her!

Aye the middle ring will be fine with the rear cassette and mech then.

Will you be running a chain device to hold the chain in place then?

If so is it held on by the bottom bracket or by ISCG tabs?

It's easy to remove the chainrings but you may need shorter chainring bolts if you don't run any sort of bashguard. Some bashguards need even longer bolts due to the thickness.

Oh god women! :P

I was thinking of trying without a chain device, but if needed i wouldn't know what to get?,

oops sorry just realised what you meant its held on by the bottom bracket at the moment but would like to replace it as i really didn't like it. Could keep it and just adjust it properly but yes it is held on with the bb!
chain device which is just two like cog wheels but i never liked this. is there any other solution?

Ideally you need some sort of chain device holding the chain in place or it just slaps about the place and off the chainring.

Any of the shimano chainsets will fit the chain device you have the now between it and the frame with no problem at all. You could go above deore and get SLX for your budget too.

Only problem being is i wouldn't know what to do after ive removed the other 2 chain rings?

Do i need something in place of these?

Something like that will replace the big ring on the chainset, the small ring just comes off and nothing else happens as it's on a different part of the crank to the middle/outer rings.

you can get any brand of bash guard as long as it is 4 bolt 104bcd. Straitline? are popular I believe.

Edit: yeah shorter bolts would allow you to juts run the one ring.

On the SLX it says This crankset includes a “honeycomb” bash guard, a steel pedal thread insert and is claimed to be 100% stronger than the XT crankset.

Would this suffice or is it different?

If I was buying a chainset then I'd probably go for SLX as to me it's the best 'bang for buck'.

I'd buy the double SLX chainset and remove the smaller ring that way you're already set. Is it at 32t ring on there just now?

I do believe so but ill have a look when i get home, would i still be okay to put my old chain device between the bottom bracket then?
