upgrade advise

Afternoon
After a bit of advise on upgrading (i'll be looking in the members market for components instead of new (more than likely))
Current Build
Pentium G3258
Budget mobo
8gb ddr3 ram
250 samsung evo ssd
2 x 1gb hdd's for storage
gtx580 gpu
850watt xfx psu
all sat in a haf912 case

The main use of the PC is watching films on my 40" tv and running a couple of VMWare virtual machines, one running windows server 2012 with SQL server running on it, one with Oracle Linux installed and oracle 12c installed on it.

when using the virtual machines it does tend to make the machine incredibly slow (im only giving them 2gb ram each). Suspect it's down to the CPU being a bit naff.
I also get fed up of waiting for rar'd files to extract.

I dont have a set budget as wasnt sure on the best route to upgrade. as mentioned i'll probs look for second hand in the MM as there's always bits going in there.
suggestions?

Have a look at what CPUs your board supports and upgrade to a i5 or i7.

How bad are these g3258 i was going to order one today how long does it take to unrar files with this chip ?
Been checking around the internet and getting different answers some say good some say crap.

i've found it overclocks alright without any messing around with voltages (straight to 4ghz with no probs)
it's ok but at unrar'ng files but compared to my old 2600k it is really slow!

I have upgraded my motherboard now

i have a ASRock Z97 Fatal1ty Killer board.
A lot of nice features on it.

I'm on the look out for a 4790k which i have a thread for in the wanted section, also looking for either additional 8gb ram or replacing my 8gb with a 16gb set (also in wanted section)
whats the opinion on RAM speeds? my board supports 2400mhz , is there much real world difference between say 1866mhz memory and 2400mhz?

Also looking at swapping out the graphics card at some point as mine is rather noisey. i'll create a thread in the GPU section about that...
