Upgrade after 11 years

Evening All,

As the title suggests i am upgrading my system as after many years of faithful service it's now showing it's age with the latest games but also starting to feel slower with a few errors creeping in.

I know how to put the PC together but am very limited in knowledge on parts and 'best buys'. Therefore i have been reading reviews and watching Youtube videos to decide on a build. I am hoping to get some feedback on the below.

My PC use is primarily gaming, Assetto Corsa Competizione and Football Manager + some other bits here and there, i would like a build than can comfortably reach 100+ FPS at 1440P but also hold its own at 4k. I've enjoyed the fact my current PC has lasted so long so the plan is to aim for a mid-high tier setup in the hope i can get good value from it, so budget is circa £1,200 - £1,300.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 GHz 6-Core Processor​

Deepcool AK400 ZERO DARK 66.47 CFM CPU Cooler​

MSI PRO B650M-P Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard (Will this bottleneck anything?)

Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (is this ok or can i get something faster?)

Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive​

ASRock Phantom Gaming OC Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB Video Card​


I plan to re-use my existing case and power supply.

It is fine.

You might want to consider the 7700 non-X because it includes a cooler good enough to use (wraith prism). The 7600 non-X does too, but the stealth is kind of poop.
 
Thanks for your replies both.

Comparing the 7600x and 7700, two things I notice is the 7700 is 1.1Ghz slower at base speed, will this be noticeable? they do both have a boost performance of 5.3Ghz, what does this mean? is that the ability to overclock or it is what headroom the CPU has under load.

Although the 7700 does come with a cooler, there is a circa £100 price difference, is the 7700 worth the extra money?

Base clock is when the computer is running at idle so slightly lowerbase clock may save you a few pence but is mostly irrevelant to performance.

Boost clock is when the CPU is working at full load and boost up to that speed, it's not overclocking but there are options in motherboard bios to do that if you wish

The 7700 has 8 cores compared to the 6 cores of the 7600 , those 2 extra cores can be useful if multitasking or heavy work loads such as video editing.

Is it worth an extra £100 that depends on the above and sort of adding an element of future demands. You always have the option to upgrade in the future especially on AM5 platform

Probably not a good idea to re-use that PSU if it's 10 years old. And you should check that it is powerful enough for your GPU.

Cases have come a long way in 10 years: take a look at the Kolink Citadel Mesh & Mesh RGB.

Thanks for that. As the main use of the PC is gaming, would I benift more from extra cores or the faster base clock? or when gaming like on ACC, because the PC will be under load they would both run at 5.3Ghz anyway?

They both will run at 5.3 GHz, ignore the base clock it means very little.

As for the 2 extra cores that may be relevant in the future so it depends on whether you want to invest in the future or have the ability to do have workloads.

If you plan on streaming games whilst playing , etc then the 7700 gives your more options and those 2 extra cores to do that. Gaming you want 6 cores imo

When I suggested it, I was mainly thinking about how you're paying £30-£40 for the cooler, so it makes the 'upgrade' cheaper, but do you need it right now? No.
