Hi guys, not built my own computer in over 3 years, so ill be needing some help guiding me in the right direction.

So, here it goes;

Budget: £800-900
To include: Motherboard, CPU, CPU Cooler, Ram, GFX, PSU, DVD Rom

Motherboard would need optical out for my z-5500, i also use usb keyboad and mouse and 5.1 component headphones.

A dilema i have is i also might need to buy a new case. I currently have the Lian Li PC-V1100 Plus. I don't know if this is going to be on the small side for current day motherboards and GFX cards.

Rig is going be used for gaming, Currently bad company 2, and eventualy Black Ops but also the odd word based document for work.

Also it will be hooked up to a 24" monitor, 1920 x 1080.

Another thing worth mentioning is that im not in a rush for a upgrade right this second, this been due for the fact that i can wait untill the next level of GFX cards come out.

I would also like to point out that im niether AMD, Intel or Nvidia biased :)

Cheers in advance for any help or advise :-) and if any futher information is needed do not hesitate to ask.

AMD's 6xxx series graphic cards should really stir the market up with the old cards dropping in price and nvidia being forced to also do the same to remain competative it could all be rather interesting.

Not worth waiting 3-6 months for new chips though unless your rig is struggling now.

Either a phenom 2 955 quad or a core i5 750, motherboard and 4 gig of ram + cooler approx £350
corsair tx650 £70,
Sony Optiarc AD-7260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter £16
Palit 460 1024mb sonic £172 (or save the money and temp run the card you already own until the new ones hit the market)

Leave approx £100 for a new case if needed or a ssd/even better graphics card if not :)

Hi
I am doing a stand alone appliance and I was able to update server and enterpise to 2.8.12. The portal is out of sync because that is the one that will not update. I get the error below when trying to upgrade the portal: Is there a manual process to do this? Can versions be skipped?

I think you meant to create your own post not join this ons didnt you??

Think ill hold out for the 6xxx series. Ill get more value for my money, as I say, I'm not in a massive rush! And the psu has got to be modular. I like the case been nice and tidy :)

Hers a good test for your case. I just checked it out and it fits a standard ATX size motherboard so you have no problem with 99% of motherboards on the market, You need to measure how long your graphics card is and then how much gap you have between the end of it and any hard drive cages etc. If its 270mm or more then you should be able to fit in most top end cards as the ati 5870 and the GTX 480 are only 270mm long.

Sounds like I'm onto a winner :-)

Hard drive cages are at the bottom of the cage. Here's a image I found on the net.
