Hey Folks,

Im prolly gonna buy this system.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-065-OE

Instead of going for a solid state option. I am gonna ask ocuk to instead install an extra 500gb to 1Tb Hard drive where win 7 would be installed have page file and games etc and keep the 1tb that comes already separate for files etc.

Which hard drive do you folks think will offer the best performance for this?

Cheers,

I would suggest going for this disk or the 1TB version. Its very fast and good value.

The velociraptor is not worth the price any more IMHO. Its in the SSD price range, but it still possesses the mechanical failings that SSDs completely blow apart - things like seek time and random read speeds.

These days I wouldn't suggest going for a RAID 0 setup. If you want a lot of performance on your primary disk - get an SSD. If you can't spend that, then a single drive or RAID1 makes the most sense. With RAID0 the chance of loosing data is too high IMHO and you don't get the main performance benefits of an SSD if you go for a RAID0/mechanical drive solution - the lightning quick responses of an SSD.
