Upgrade Bug!!!!

ask the wife if the noise reduction is worth £600...if she says yes...you've got your answer ;p
tell her you might be under-budget too! xD

lol we acting like high school kids these days? xD

To be fair, I'm not really going to give her a choice. She may not appreciate my "childish" hobby but there aint no way I'm ever giving this up!

She's been told and will have to get used to it! :D

As an alternative solution, what about using a CLC like the H100i or the Antec 1250 for the GPU?

Would I need anything for the VRMs? Very tempted by the Corsair HG10 on release?!

What do you think of this?

18W Laing DDC-1 plus T pump with braided cables with EK DDC X-Top V2 (Acetal)

I've found it on the MM for £35 - worth it and do I need anything else? Apart from the res!

I've got fans (Red/Black Wingboost 2 PWM) and will be looking to get the following from the MM, everything else will be new:

  • Rad (2x240)
  • CPU/GPU block (EK)
  • Fittings (Black)

To be honest, its not the end of the world if I have to buy new, it was only £330 when I spec'd the other day.

Compression.
I assume by normal, you mean barbs?

Sorry yeah - this is what I've been considering and started saving for after Christmas:

YOUR BASKET
1 x EK Water Blocks EK-FC R9-290X - Nickel (Original CSQ) £69.95
1 x EK Water Blocks EK-DCP 2.2 X-RES (incl. pump) £63.95
1 x EK Water Blocks EK-Supremacy EVO (Original CSQ) £49.99
2 x XSPC EX240 120mm Radiator - Black £37.99 (£75.98)
3 x Primochill Primoflex Advanced Tubing 13/10 - Clear £5.99 (£17.97)
1 x XSPC LCD Temperature Sensor (Red) V2 £4.99
10 x Koolance Nozzle Single, *Black* Compression for 10mm x 13mm (3/8in x 1/2in) £3.95 (£39.50)
Total : £322.31 (includes shipping : ).

i've used compression fittings for mine, cuz it hides the crap tube-cutting i do lol
it's probably safer than barb fittings, and as safe as barb + zip tie

i've used koolance fittings as their 90 degree rotaries are the smallest of the lot, so it really helps if space is limited

What would you change to the above? 1/2 90degree fittings? Bearing in mind there is potential to add a 2nd card - but not sure when.

Also, where do you live?

when i built my loop, i bought everything except the tubing and the fittings, that way you can test fit everything first, and decide how many 30/60/90 degree fittings you need

and i'll definitely add a couple or four (lol) quick-disconnects, they'll add massively to the price (1 set costs ~£30) but they're godsent if you're planning upgrades or needing to drain the loop.
definitely have at least a pair (one set to the gpu, and another set from the gpu) so you can isolate the gpu and upgrade easily

Good idea and yes, they look quite expensive!

Looks fine, though I'd suggest an EK FC block (or Aquacomputer) as with the adaptor that comes with the CSQ, you'll have to buy a couple of 90° fittings which will add ~£10 anyway.
Since you like it to look pretty, I'd also suggest a backplate.

I've got a custom backplate which is in need of some work but this will be going onto the GPU over the coming weeks

Do you get the plugs with the GPU/Pump-Res?

the qdcs have different connectors at the end of them. for mine i picked them with one end having a compression and the other end having the screw-in
you can have both ends as compressions and mount them in-line if you don't want them sticking out on a block like what i did

im in brum

It's tempting, I'll play around with the spec and see what I can do. Don't really want to spend more than £350.

Don't suppose you'd help with the build would you? Happy to try on my own, but doesn't stop the nerves.

Still going ahead with this snips?

I'm rebuilding my loop soon (my pump is knackered & want a new colour scheme) so can post up some pictures video's to help if you need some guidance, I'm also down Birmingham side should you need a hand.

Oh fantastic news, thanks :D

Yes, I'm still going ahead with it. I've been putting it off for ages as I've basically chickened out - and not had the money.

I've been looking for quite sometime however and I cannot put it off anymore. I need to get it done - and yes, pics would be amazing. I've done no planning yet either, so they may prove useful.

What's the thickest rad you can get in the S2?

here ya go...just for you ;p

dick :p :D

I've started planning my loop and I've got a question. Which would be better:

1: XSPC D5 Photon 170 Reservoir/Pump Combo
2: EK DCP 2.2 Pump (12v) and Bitspower Z-Multi 150mm Water Tank

With #1, I would be looking to create a metal plate which would attach to the radiator allowing me to mount the pump/res to the plate at the front of the case

With #2, I would be looking to have the pump at the back of the case and the res at the front, again, mounted to a metal plate.
