This is a weird one. I've just upgraded a PC with new Mobo, graphics and hard drives after a customer tried to replace a PSU himself and fried the drives and mobo.
After rebuilding I installed Windows XP Pro which went fine. However I realised that the drive letters were wrong - I missed this in the partitioning part of the setup. So, I decided to start again after unplugging the multi-card reader which was grabbing drive letters before the hard drives. While it was quick formatting the drive for the 2nd install I went away for a while. When I returned some time later the machine was off!
When trying to restart it the machine will now power up. Switching on the PSU at the back of the PC lights up the mobo LCD's and starts the PSU fan. Pressing the power button on the front of the machine starts the CPU fan for a second but it then stops and no screen output is seen.
The machine was working fine an hour ago before I decided to reformat and re-install again.
The hardware is:
New componenents:
PSU: Xilence XP750
Mobo: Abit IN9 32X-MAX
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX
Pre-existing components:
Memory: Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 x 2
CPU: Intel P4 650 3.4Ghx
HDD: Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500Gb Sata drive x 2
What I don't understand is why it should go all through a Windows install only to stop behaving when I try to re-install.
Any help appreciated.
