Good upgrade to future proof (more games & apps are being patched or coded for dual cores) & for multitasking.

Now you just need to upgrade the graphics cards -
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-048-PC)
£252.57*Including VAT
- something like this. Cheaper & better than the 7800GTX / 7900GT.

His two 6800 GT's are fine for his monitor.
And I have shown you benchmarks that show there is nothing between the card you mention and the 7900 GT.

He has just invested in a SLI mobo and you suggest a card that will not allow him to upgrade and utilise his SLI setup.

Quite frankly 7900 GT's can be had for less than the card you keep mentioning and when overclocked are faster to boot.

So to suggest an x1800xt to the guy is not very helpful IMO.

Each to their own.
I prefer the superior ATI IQ too.
And i am not aware of any cheaper 7900GT cards. And certainly none with 512MB ram that is more so becoming required for future game engines.
Besides the X1800XT are proven great overclocking cards, for the 7900GT its just supposition so far (overclocking 7900GT's on cherry picked press release samples doesnt count).
And ATI cards do work on SLI mobo's.
Besides imo SLI is almost never worthwhile unless getting two topend cards at the same time. By the time you want to get a 2nd card for SLI, the next gen cards would be cheaper & faster than SLI (after selling older card), that is provided you can find a 2nd hand card for SLI.

ATI cards work in sli mobos but not in SLI so you are stuck with the one card solution.

SLI is worth it and you do not need to get top end cards to beat the performance by a substantial ammount of the x1800xt you mentioned for much more outlay.

Two 7600GT's in SLI wipe the floor with the x1800xt and cost only marginally more.

Ive hit 21k in 3dmark03

and 9k in 3dmark 05

4799 in 3dmark 06

I dont see these cards being a problem.

I ONLY asked will i see gains with new mobo better ram and chip.

I cant stand ati i had a 9700pro and 9800pro but always had problems.
And in quake it felt weird to a m8s nvidia card. Strafes were slightly differant maybe a mental thing.

I also had major artifacts on both ati cards when they got hot...

dont get me wrong guys i no the 18000 and the x19000xt are well fast. i just prefer nvidia...

i got the asus a8n32sli with true x16 lanes the ram asus and corsair recommend 3500ll pro.
And a decent chip the x2 4800
also going from ide 250 gig to sata raptor.

Again i just wanted to no if i would see any gains...

all bought from Ocuk. Which should be here 2morrow along with my bros fx60..

Most people dont consider £40 to 80 pounds marginal, and thats with the cheapest 7600GTs, with the 'xtreme' editions its £60-110 difference.
Sorry dude, but thats hardly marginal.
