I have been with Pipex for years now (although I've got phonecalls from Talk Talk and its reporting as Tiscali on some websites, so dunno what's going on with them!). About a week ago my internet looks to have been upgraded.
I used to be on a 2MB down, 0.25 up deal. I've heard nothing from them, no letters, emails, phone calls, but my line looks to have been upgraded to this:
Which I'm obviously chuffed with. I know I really shouldn't complain but it doesn't feel as fast as I imagined. Downloading from steam for example I've seen it go at 2.1MB/s which is awesome, but elsewhere it's not as fast.
Simple browsing doesn't really seem to be much different, for example the random image and awesome gif threads on here still take a few seconds to display all the images. And my torrent downloads top out at ~900k and averages at around 400k, even though I've used the speed guide setup tool in utorrent. I don't think this is being throttled as I do get throttled at peak times and this drops right down to sub 50K.
Is this normal or is there anything else I can try to speed it up? I've got a Netgear DG834GT if there's anything I can tweak on here?
