My younger cousin is looking for a new PC or maybe to upgrade.

he has a P4 2.4Ghz 533 with 512mb ram and a crappy graphics card.

I'm recommending a whole new AM2 system

CP-164-AM AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-164-AM)
£66.95 £66.95
MB-147-AS Asus M2N-E (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-147-AS)
£69.95 £69.95
MY-030-GL GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB5300DC) (MY-030-GL)
£54.95 £54.95

etc.

but i'm hearing news of this conroe.
should i recommend he wait or shall he jump in and buy. or should he just buy a new graphics card?

he wants it for gaming mainly.
budget is very small, his dad has instructed me to spend minimum amount possible for him. so no set budget just as little as possible.

No point buying a new mobo, cpu and ram and no new graphics card.

Thats not gonna yield a decent increase for gaming unless you add a nice new graphics card to.

Conroe is the next best thing, but it'll cost you, if you want something cost effective, watch the AM2 prices.

I just haven't decided on the Graphics.
probably the 7800Gt for 99.95.

but yeah that would be included as well as the case and PSU, sata II HD, DVD-RW etc if he buys a new system.

Also here is the s939 3700 on special offer or should i just stick to the AM2 system?

AM2 isnt too far off 939 as far as I can understand it. The only thing it lets you use is DDR2 memory and would have more future upgrades available to it. Apparently performance is only about little bit more.

If there's no hurry then it might be worth waiting until Conroe is released - as there's a good chance the AM2/939 prices may drop in order to compete.

But otherwise, I'd say that an AM2 system is pretty decent just now.
