Hiya. Am a little bit out of touch with PC stuff these days! But it's time to upgrade my ageing Core2Duo rig. Built it several years back and it's served me well but I want to bring it up to date / replace it.

I mostly use it for a mix of multimedia (general office stuff) & gaming (but not too much). Any advice on the spec I'm about to order would be most welcome! GFX card is a HD5850 and I'll stick with that for the moment, upgrading it later if it can't keep up with modern games.

Heres the spec.....

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H

Intel Core i5 3570K,1155, Ivy Bridge, Quad Core

8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Jet Black LP, PC3-12800

Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H60 High-performance CPU Cooler (had the H50 on my C2D rig and it's been really good)

Corsair Carbide Series 300R with USB 3.0

256GB Samsung 830 Series, SSD Notebook Kit, SATA III, 3-core MCX, NAND-Flash, Read 520Mb/s, Write 400Mb/s, 256MB Cache

Pretty sure most of the components are a good choice (have done research). Only thing I can't seem to work out is the SSD drive. Is this the one to go for?

Thanks in advance.

Looks good mate, that SSD will be fine.

Do you have SATA optical/HDD drives?

Also the Kuhler620 is a bit cheaper than the H60 and in stock.

Edit...also is that the retail package CPU? I hope it is as the prices are very similar but you are gaining a longer 3 year warranty, shiny retail box and stock intel heatsink.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Have swapped the Corsair H60 cooler for Antec Kúhler H2O 920 (may as well get the decent one).

The CPU was the OEM one - but you're right it's worth paying £10ish for an extra 2 years warranty so have swapped this for retail version.

Few last questions:

1) What about the SSD? I did my research and was all set to get the 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS Edition (unfortunately from elsewhere because can't find it on OCUK) - but now it seems the Samsung 830 is raved about, and the Vertex 4 is also out so it's made me wonder which one to get.

2) Is it worth getting the Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit instead? Surely quad channel (4x4GB is better than dual channel (2x4GB) - or does it not work like that?
