Looking for a body upgrade. Not really interested in video and budget is about £500.
Already have the kit lens, nifty fifty and 55-250 is.

Thanks for any help

Ps would love to hear from anyone with the 60d

I'd keep you body and buy glass a canon 17-50mm f2.8 is would likely make a bigger difference to your photography than any canon body within budget. You could probavly get a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 non-is and a canon 70-200mm f4l for your budget (ish) which would again give a massive improvement in your output.

Don't really take pictures of anything in particular so something as near to an all rounder as possible

Why do you want an upgrade, what is you limitation?

Image quality wise if you stick to canon you won't find any noticible differences in IQ between any canon crop (to be fair the same is true on Nikon/Sony/Pentax/Olympus, all models share same sensor tech, but if you did jump ship the you could get a nice bump). Therefore if all you want s an improvement in IQ and to stay with canon then look at a used 5dmk2 or a 6d etc.

If you want better focus then look at a 2nd hand 7Dmk2 or 70D.

If you want a nicer body the 40D is a good one, 50D went plastic fantastic.

Otherwise i would simply buy new glass, you would get a bigger difference buying some nice fast zooms or primes etc.

50D and 40D are identical in body construction and ergonomics (I have both). It's the 60D that went plastic and lost some enthusiast features. The 70D seems to be a mix, the top cover being composite supposedly for wifi features.

I'd disagree that you won't see an IQ improvement on an upgrade though- I went from a 1000D to the 40D for improved features, but also noticed better high ISO performance despite supposedly having the same sensor. Also the much better rate of in-focus shots could be seen as an IQ upgrade :D

As DP says, what are the limitations you're hitting on the 1100D? Or do you just fancy an upgrade (which is reason enough in my book)?

Oops my bad as I should have explained better, the 1100d is my partners so I want a camera of my own. Don't mind switching to Nikon as the d7000 is tempting or staying with canon and get a s/h 50d and tamron 17-50 2.8 lens?

50D, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non-VC and 70-200 f2.8 IS II is the kit I use. Very happy with it.

There will be an argument to go the Nikon route, but if your partner shoots canon then you could share lenses (and pool resources for newer/better ones)
