I've been going back and fourth for months because I've fed up with the washed out whitish looking colors of my 27" 1080 iiyama monitor (especially when i got a Panasonic vt50 as my tv). and i can't decided between

(below my understanding)
1) Dell U2410 (edit or Asus PA248Q just seen this week offer)
+awesome color reproduction and blacks
+viewing angles
+more real estate (going from a 1080 to 1200)
+better ppi (going from 27" 1080 to 24" 1200)
-slightly more lag

2) Benq XL2420T
+very little lag
+120hz smoothness
+and can turn off v-sync because of no screen tearing (a big plus for me because that means no more dodgy mouse movement)
-less color accuracy

I'm leaning towards the Benq because i use my pc for purely gaming (logical decision) and internet but i can't decide between the two.
Any help or input from owners of the two monitors or anything thing you thing is relevant and that would help would be fantastic . I'd like to get it as a Christmas present :D
Thankyou

I have one of each on my desk and you summed it up perfectly. If fast paced gaming matters a lot to you, than the benq is the one you want. Otherwise the Dell is the better monitor.

You said you game a lot, is it a lot of multiplayer FPS? If so, get the benq. You can get the colours looking semi decent in non-game modes anyway.

this benq looks excellent, also cheap.

Got it a couple of weeks ago on TWO for £179.99, too good to miss. Some folks think at 27" you should be at a higher res than 1080 but thats fine if you have £300 to spend. The BenQ GW2750HM seems an excellent compromise to me. :)

I really really hate the color reproduction and backlight characteristics on the Benq XL2420T - personally don't find it friendly on the eyes at all for desktop type useage - but not much beats it for pure gaming useage - for FPS gaming it excels.

As above I have 2 monitors on my desk the XL2420T for gaming and a higher image quality 60Hz panel for all other uses and theres a reason I do that heh.

Thank you for the input, but i can't afford two monitors :). Every owner that has posted has said that the
benq has terrible out of the box color reproduction , however with a few adjustments and a calibration download from tftcentral its much better just wondered if you have tried this.
I don't mind colors that pop out of the screen. Would just love to turn of v-sync and have the 120hz smoothness.
If the color is quite bad even after slight calibration i will go for the ips dell u24 or Asus PA248Q because the only online game that would really benefit is cod and my monitors washed out colors at the min are annoying me just sitting on desktop and with the dell you get the dell premium guarantee (1 dead pixel replacement), similar with asus i believe within first 7 days. i've had a monitor with a dead pixel before and being a perfectionist my eyes were drawn to it like fly's to ****.
thank you for the help £350 is a lot

Don't forget that if you get a higher resolution you'll have to make sure that your GPU can push more than 60fps before it will matter. If it can't do better than 60fps then having a monitor capable of showing 120hz but the same frame sticking around for 2hz it won't really look that much better! It should still help with screen tearing though.

The colors on the XL2420T are very vibrant - its got very bright colors but they aren't especially accurate even when calibrated* but if you just like a colorful display then it won't bother you.

I dislike the hue of the backlight to - its got an icey blueness to it I find uncomfortable on the eyes but thats probably going to be something thats down to individual perception.

* i.e. the blues on the OcUK forums with the best possible calibration settings have a slight purple hue and if you tweak it to make the blues more accurate you start to get a green hue seeping into the mid-tones for some reason and if you tweak it to try and balance those 2 you end up with a blue tinge to areas of white.
