Hi Peeps,

Long time enthusiast here if I'm honest I have been completely out of touch with new tech for the last couple of years and I need some advice with how to spend my new hardearned payrise:D

I currently have a socket 1366 based i7 920 platform with 6GB Corsair dominator, and an ATI 5870 gpx card. My main system drive is a WD black edition / series. The PSU is a Corsair 620 watt modular.

I'm not sure that I need to get rid of the 920 yet as I havent even bothered overclocking it yet and I don't seem to be working it that hard. Of course it maybe not being worked because somehting else is a bottle neck (gpx?) and if I upgrade my gpx to somethign new then it may well start to look to creak?.

I'm thinking that I'm going to get a real performance increase for gaming either from a flash disk upgrade and / or a gpx card upgrade.

The ATI card has been okay if a bit noisy and I normally buy NVidia cards if I'm honest so I am happy to be flexible either way in terms of manufactuer.

Can anyone give me some advice about how to get another year or so out of the old gal?

For info normally playing games like BF3 / SWTOR / LOTRO / Skyrim etc.

Thanks peeps!

CPU is still good, so get yourself a good cooler and get down to some overclocking :D

On top of that, order a nice crucial M4 128gb SSD and then wait to see what the GTX680 is like next month :)

Agree with IvanDobskey, get yourself a good cooler as to OC a 920 you'd need a good cooler, so perhaps Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced BK104 for eg or something similar. Then you can look into other components! :)

I whole heartedly agree with the above 2 replies, I run the 930 and won't upgrade any time soon. Get yourself a decent cooler and overclock it, the GTX480's are on offer at the moment and very good value for money imho (I have one) or the AMD equivalent. You could have course wait for the nVidia cards (Kepler) to be released and see if prices drop elsewhere.

Choices choices :)
