A few thoughts. First, is that changing cpu on a laptop is somewhat out of the ordinary. Further, thats a Socket 479 processor. I'm pretty certain the mobile c2d range isn't. So it wont fit.

Is your processor soldered down? A fair few are, if so you wont be changing it.
Are you confident in stripping down a laptop? I'm guessing you havent taken the processor out to have a look at it, which would've been the first thing I'd do. Be careful with the keyboard ribbon cable, and probably say goodbye to any remaining warranty.

And finally, laptop processors are expensive. Very expensive when compared to the cost of a laptop. If you're looking for a self assembled laptop, OCZ do D.I.Y. laptops that you can just about find in the UK. If you're looking for a way to have a very fast laptop at low price by upgrading an old one, I think you're out of luck.

p.s. one thing that might save it is an ocz ssd drive, but thats not cheap either, requires an sata connection that your laptop might not have, and doesn't work so well out of the box with XP. You probably want a new computer I'm afraid
