I have some money to spend on my system to around 1.5k if needed..I use my pc mainly just for browsing and gaming.I'm looking forward to playing cyberpunk and currently play games such as warthunder,FS2020 il2 and DCS on VR, I plan on dipping back into FPS.

I'm trying to work out if If I would notice a significant change if i went to upgrade my cpu/mobo/ram and GPU (3080) at the same time or if I should save some cash and only need to say upgrade GPU and chuck in another 16gb of ram to keep me going? Any advice would be appreciated..

My current spec is..
CPU i7-6700k
MOBO Asus Z170 pro gaming motherboard
PSU Corsair 750w PSU
RAM 16gb - Corsair Vengence 3200mhz
GPU 980Ti
Monitor Acer predator x34p

Pretty much the same as my rig but I have a gtx 1080. I think that build is basically fine, but a gpu upgrade wouldn't hurt. If after that you decide to upgrade more then you can and you've lost nothing by doing it in phases.

Ultra wide 100hz 1440p... Either 3080 or 3090 will fly. 3090 should mean your getting to most top end of that 100hz refresh rate.. but it's the £££ that hurts !

Games you play, that i7 4 core clock to 5ghz or more is enough.. cyber punk should take advantage of the cores.... FM2020 should get DX12 upgrade eventually. Does have a life span of 10 years !
But ideally as you've mentioned you'd want total 32GB of system ram for that .

What hurts is Zen3 paper launch is October with CPUs most likely hitting the deck End of November . Could wait all in to see how the full monty would work but RTX 3*** stock will be low and expensive !!!! And demand of Zen3 is going to be BIG !

3080 should give you damn good uplift over your 980ti as well as increase from 6 to 10GB VRam

Is that the confirmed consensus now, Orbi - end of November? :/

Pure guess work on that . Covid and politics had a way . Intel was quick off the mark with 10th Gen but normally a wait from public announcement. Though seems that have announced the changes before the announcement... Lol

For cyberpunk (assuming you are happy with current PC performance), stall for next gen AMD cpu and gpu prices and performance. Both are due before cyberpunk launch.

Cyberpunk is this years buzz. Plenty of time to see what it needs before spending.

16gb to 32gb is a safe bet. You may hit snags getting all 4 sticks to run, but nothing that a bit of trial and error and asking here won't solve.
