hi there,

Im currently using a AMD rig which is 939 and im wanting to upgrade from my 3500. I was considering getting a X2 939 processor but with 939 being dated i then considered buying a new AM2 socket mobo and a AM2 X2. But id then need to upgrade my Ram as its PC3200. So im thinking that C2D is the best at the moment. But im also worried that if i get a C2D rig that AMD are gonna bring out a CPU for the AM2 socket thats gonna kick Intels ass in the near future. Whats the best route to go, i really dont want to be upgrading all the time so i want a setup thats gonna last. My current pc isnt old and at the time of buying the parts i thought that what was best but now my PC knowledge has grown ive understood its kinda dated. Whats the best route for me to go?

Buy a socket 939 x2 cpu and stick it in your current system. You will have a system that is as good as a current AM2 setup, and won't have wasted an entire system upgrade if AMD release a core2duo killer in 6 months time!

Yeah but with 939 becoming obsolete i very much doubt there gonna bring a better 939 CPU than a C2D cpu...

I think he meant that in the sense that instead of you doing a full upgrade, if you spend as little as you can improving your current system and then purchase something in the near future, instead of jumping into C2D and seeing AMD come and woop :p

Either a better 939 chip because it is a good value for money upgrade, or a C2D rig as if your going to replace the main 3 bits (CPU, Mobo, RAM) you might as well go C2D.
