Upgrade dilemma

As the title suggests I have a bit of dilemma as to the best way of upgrading.

Basically the situation is that my son has two pc's, one at home and one at uni, the respective specs are:

Home machine
Gigabyte H61 mobo
i3 2120
4gb xms ram

Uni machine
Overclockers - Titan Xenomorph" Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz @ 4.20GHz Nvidia Edition DDR3 System
4gb ram

current graphics card is a GTX 460 which he moves between the two machines.

Both pc's are fully functional and in good working order and have decent psu's, HDD OS etc

I want to upgrade one of the pc's to give better gaming performance and would like a bit of guidance as to what people think would be the best way. The remaining pc would then simply be used for light duties e.g. browsing, watching videos, music etc

My original thoughts were to simply replace the i3 2120 with an i5 3570 with a view to replacing the graphics card at a later date.

As an alternative to this I have also considered leaving the overclocked i3 530 as is and installing a better graphics card and maybe an ssd as a boot drive.

I have about £250 - £300 to spend and would welcome peoples suggestions as to what would be considered the best performance boost for my budget.

Thanks in advance
