Upgrade Dilemma

Currently rocking a 3090 but I'm finding that too often I'm having to rely on dodgy FG solutions just to run things with all bells and whistles these days so almost time for an upgrade.

The 50 series is just around the corner, however, I'm actually interested in a 4080 Super which I think will meet my needs and has good perf/cost ratio.

Question is should I...

a. wait for 50 series to drop and (I assume) get a 4080 Super for less than its current retail price BUT likely sell my 3090 for less than I could currently get for it (at least £600).
b. upgrade to a 4080 Super now and sell my 3090 for £600 BUT pay more for the 4080 Super now than I potentially would if I wait until the 50 series cards have dropped.

Anyone got any advice? Not sure which is the best option.

£600 for a 3090??? las tone i saw went at £450...at £600 I'd sell and say thankyou..I remember a strix 3090 sold for £650 when the 4090 launched...so 2 years later and you can get £50 less..ooooophhffff..can you not live without a gpu for a few weeks? 4080sup prices in uk silly at mo

yeah according to sold prices on Ebay I should get 600 at least. Plenty gone for over £600 this month. I guess because it's a Suprim X version?
I remember my 3090 was worth £3000 at one point with all the data mining

I don't know how these things usually work in terms of prices when the new cards come out but I'm just assuming my card will lose value so not sure whether to cash in now or not.

4080 Super prices don't seem too bad compared to 4090 though and it's still a substantial upgrade over a 3090?

Option C) wait for people to panic sell there 4090's to try and get a 5090 and potentially grab a bargin

I like this idea but don't fancy taking on a 2nd hand card and having to deal with any potential issues.

CES is the beginning of Jan, and the 5000 series will probably be released end Jan/beginning of Feb so i would personally just wait.. it all depends entirely really whether you need to sell the 3090 for the maximum you can get now or whether you can afford to take a potential hit and possibley even be able to afford the 5080.
It's not like the 3090 is bad and isn't capable anymore, just lower your setting for a month. I personally went from a 3090 to a 4090 on release and it was well worth the upgrade.. i wont be going for the 5000 series this time round as nothing is really stressing the 4090 and in 2 years when the 6000 series is out then it should hopefully be a decent uplift in performance

Good advice, thanks. I think I'll wait and see. I was exactly the same as you when the 4090 came out. My 3090 was still destroying everything in its path so wasn't worth it but the last 6 months I've had to start fiddling with settings a bit more than I'm happy with.
