Hello everyone!!

I have a r9 280x toxic and 280x tri-x in crossfire and i'm so sick of all the crossfire issues with every game.

SO its gpu downsizing upgrade time, want to run one gpu. Less heat and more stable, sick of flashing textures and not that much fps gain

i've only ever used amd, and i think i'm ready to turn to the dark side

Any advice on what cards will give a performance boost over two 280x's

The only card which would come close to what you had is an Nvidia 980. A 280x Crossfire is about 10-15% faster than a 290x on average, which is about the same difference between a 980 and a 290x.

+1.

I think your only worthwhile single card Nvidia option is a 980 at the minute. Only other option I can see is to save some cash and wait to see what comes, either Titan or 980ti.

Xfire to single card comparison is hardily fair when he is suffering from Xfire problems.

But, if we are going to compare; a 290x at 15% less than when two 280x's are working perfectly in Xfire... 85% of the performance is pretty good for a single card option.

I would go with the 290x.

Dying light is horrendous to the point i have to run it with one 280x
the second game is mechwarrior online but thats not so bad, still not running very fast.

Fair enough. I used to have a 4870x2 back in the day, which used to give me quite a few problems with crossfire. I've only had single card solutions since, but I was under the impression that AMD had sorted out most crossfire problems, to the point where it is basically indistinguishable from sli now? Evidently, your experience demonstrates otherwise though.

yeah its not the best experience. But to be fair its more down to the lazy ass game developers. Works fine on battlefield 4, had to create my own profile for mwo. And dying light have just said they are working on a fix for bad crossfire+sli. Its like they never beta tested

thats because Dying Light is a poorly optimised game! TBH most nVidia games do tend to be poorly optimised and even run bad on nVidia GPU too!

Its a single threaded game which does look like will make SLI and Xfire pointless. There was a thread on this game based on how bad performance wise this game was on both AMD and nVidia hardware!
