Upgrade for £300

OK so after upgrading my main rig I now want to sort my spare rig out for my son. What upgrades should I get for £300 or less to improve gaming performance.

Current spec:

Fx 6300 with msi 970 gaming mobo
8gb crucial Ballistix tracer 1600mhz 2x4gb
Radeon hd 7870 2gb
Psu corsair 650w

Edit: was thinking maybe cpu and mobo upgrade but unsure which but maybe gpu would benefit more? Also this will be purchased this evening so need some quick recommendat ions please.

Since its a spare machine, and all you want to do is improve gaming performance, then the GPU is the only option really as it will offer the biggest boost for the money.

The 390 and even some 390x deals come in within your budget or 970s from nvidia. If I was in your shoes, I'd grab the cheapest 390. You will probably find its not that far off your main rig tbh, especially in poorly threaded games.

It's not 650w it's a corsair cx 600m .

Should be ok as far as I can tell, though it is a budget type psu. I would hope it would be fine with any single gpu really, but for peace of mind, you could always spend the rest on a new gold+/better brand.

I would suggest something like this, although its slightly above your budget.:
