I've really enjoyed the EVO 212's budget performance but im thinking of upgrading to see if i can get my CPU to overclock a little further and would really appreciate your guys input.

Thinking of going Noctua but open to suggestions.

I would not go with an AIO that are CLCs. Top tier air costs less, is way more dependable and cools just as well, especially at same noise levels. Even AIOs that are not CLC and are much better quality with copper radiator, pump with higher flow, real fittings and fill plug are not much better than top air coolers, and they cost even more. Top tier air coolers range in price from £45-50 on up depending on what is on special. £60-93.00 is normal pricing. How cool do you want to be, I mean how much do you want to spend? :D

@Psycho Sonny - What about the U14S or D14/15 ?

I'm not interested in liquid.

@doyll anyhing up to £100.
You can buy any of the top tier coolers for less than £100. While Noctua make very good coolers they are not any better than several other brands often costing less and almost always better looking.
We need to know what case, motherboard and RAM you have to determine what coolers to fit.

What will fit depends on what your case CPU clearance is how tall your RAM is and how close to CPU socket your nearest PCIe socket is.
Without knowing those measurements makes it very hard to say what coolers will fit.

Was just reading on a review which put le grand macho, d15, cryorig R1 ultimate within 1c of each other in multiple tests.
I have the D15SE(AM4) after switching from custom loop and happy with it, changed the fans today to 2 x 2000rpm noctua industrial fans - just because I couldn't live with that fan color.

Define R4 has 170mm CPU clearance so your RAM can be up to 35mm tall and fit under a 140mm fan. 35mm RAM measured 38mm from surface of motherboard to top of RAM. I still have no idea what the spacing from CPU to PCIe sockets is, and many several of the best coolers are 75mm center CPU toward PCIe sockets. I asked for specific questions and got "normal size ram i guess". I can't say what coolers will fit and without knowing what components you have in your R4. ;)

What Avathar77 said is true, and his listing is only the tip of the iceberg. PH-TC14PE, NH-D14, NH-U14S, Olymp, Silver Arrow IB-E Extreme, (all Silver Arrow variants except IBX), HE01 and TRUE Spirit 140 Power are only a few of the top coolers. Look at a few and ask.

what's the best cooler for £30-£50. one is for a tight rig with very little space and will run hot. should i be getting something that blows down on the motherboard?

the other is for a large case, ram will be placed far away and low profile. however this time the case will have 2 GPU's. will have 5 intake fans and 3 exhausts.

Really need to know at least what cases they will be used in. Even better what motherboard and RAM each chase has.

With Asus strix b350
Ryzen 7 1700x

Ram will be some cheap crucial ballistix sport 2400mhz ddr4

Will have 2 X 1080 in it. I have 1 blower and one open air cooler currently but plan is to put 1 most likely the blower cooler in the second rig and get another open air cooler version 1080. So 2 open air cooler 1080's in it.

And the other case is

Carbide Series® Air 240

I've not settled on a CPU or motherboard yet. However same ram as above.

I'm waiting for coffee lake to come out and probably going to go for that if it's better pound for pound Vs ryzen. However the case will only accept micro ATX or mini ATX motherboard.

Gpu in this small case will be a founders edition 1080 with blower cooler.

see above.

i ordered a Cryorig H7 for the ryzen 1700x in the corsair 200r. with the asus strix b350. i have 6 x 120mm fans to install into the case on top of the 2 x 120 mm fans it came with.

now the carbide series air 240. i'm thinking possibly a coffelake or ryzen setup with a micro atx. same ram as above and blower GPU due to space restrictions and cooling will therefore be restricted. should I just go with the H7 again? will it even fit? or the evo 212x?

Corsar 200R has 165mm CPU clearance
Corsir says 240 only has 120mm CPU clearance. If you have the case and can measure from mottherboard tray case and subtract 16mm you have the CPU clearance. Case specs are often a few mm less than what case actually can hold.;)
H7 is 145mm tall so will not fit.
H7 is better than 212X. Have you looked at NH-U9S (125mm tall) or NH-D9L (110mm tall)?
