Its not something urgent as it is still mnore than capable, but just seeing what my options are to improve gaming on my PC.

I currently have

AMD X4 640 @ 3.6GHz (will not go higher)
4GB DDR3
AMD HD6950 2GB
Corsair HX 520W PSU.
Gigabyte motherboard with crossfire at x8 speed.

I was thinking either upgrade the CPU & Motherboard to a sandybridge 2500K. wait for ivy bridge and upgrade then.
Or alternatively add another HD 6950. But I think I need a new PSU to go along with it.

Do I need more ram for games like Rage and Battlefield or is 4GB enough.

i'd give battelfield 3 a go with your current system, then maybe think about the 2500K upgrade if it doesn't hold up to game play as well as you'd like.

I'd wait for ivy bridge personally, it is estimated to be around 20-30% faster than sandybridge then you can get yourself a SSD as the prices are coming down a fair bit now and will come down in price even more,I think you should buy the SSD and the ivy bridge processor together because SSD's will probably be around £1 per GB.
