I've been happily running the rig in my sig since 2008, but moving to 100% use of RAW in my Nikon D7100 and therefore Lightroom and Photoshop have exposed how old my faithful setup has become. I've been well out of the system building loop as I just haven't needed to do anything for years, but the impending Windows 10 upgrade and talk of Intel Skylake have piqued my interest, and it seems that when Skylake is launched, that may be a good time to jump into a new CPU / Mobo / RAM + SSD upgrade.
The reason for my post is this: Is Skylake worth waiting for for my intended usage? I'm as interested in taking advantage of the latest mainboard advances as the new CPU's capabilities.
Option B is to go Intel 5280 and X99, but I'm concerned that the X99 motherboards won't be as advanced / future-proof as the Z170 boards.
Replacing my WD Black system drive with and SSD is an absolute must as well, and the M2 drives sound interesting - are they worth the extra cost over SATA 3 drives?
Budget is likely to be around £700, but flexible thanks to OCUK's buy now pay 12 months option!
