Hi folks

I'm looking to upgrade my sons aging AMD Radeon RX 270x 2gb.
His current system is:
AMD FX 8320 boosting to 4GHZ
12gb ddr 3 1600
120gb ssd (windows install)
1TB seagate 7200rpm HDD
ASUS Motherboard 970 chipset.

I've built it out of a lot of old parts lying about and parts donated from friends.

He plays mostly Minecraft, ROBLOX and a bit of COD warzone with me. He also plays sub Nautica. Its stutters a lot in some games.

I was thinking of either a GTX 1660 or a 1650 Super.
Bottleneck?
Is it to close to call or is there any point paying the extra for the 1660?

Cheers

I've tried Minecraft on the SSD tbh its not much of an improvement, if I put my RX570 into his system it is like night and day.

Wait a few weeks.

Nvidia are about to announce a whole new range of Graphics cards, probably on Tuesday this week. At the very least there should soon be a small price drop in the current cards.

Yes, definitely look into using an SSD first. That should make a noticeable difference. ;)

Edit: I'm surprised it didn't make much difference. In that case, just go for a new GPU. I'm not sure when the new cards are landing, but that should help push the prices down a touch of the current/older generation ones.

I would have thought that a 1650 Super might be about as much you'd want to go for, as the CPU will be the next limiting factor. It (the 1650S) will still net him around double the performance of the 270X anyway, so all good.

Cheers for the reply’s guys. TBH his ssd is only a 120gb it did improve things slightly moving mine craft.
His HDD is a seagate black edition So fast enough I would think. I’m trying not to store to much other than the os etc on the SSD. His gran sent him an Amazon gift card for £150. So it’s costing me knowt. I think I’ll go for the 1650 super and save £50 over the 1660. From the benches I’ve seen seems there is only a few fps between them.

The 1650 super is essentially a 1660 for cheap, so go for it. Definitely CPU & RAM next when you get the chance, that's the big problem for warzone and the like.

Would it be much of an upgrade? 1660 or 1650s

Over your card? A 1660S would deliver roughly 50% extra performance over the RX570 - with the 1650 being somewhere in the middle of the three (~20 - 25%).

Edit: sorry, I was thinking of the 1660 Super; the 1660 (non-Super) would be a touch faster than the 1650 Super.

That's
what I have done Chrisc, rx570 4gb to the boy and I have an
EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 SC ULTRA GAMING getting delivered tomorrow.;)
