Gentlemen, your advice please.
I am currently running an AMD64 3500, 1gig GeiL value ram, nvidia 6800GT AGP all sat on an ABIT AV8 uGuru board in an Antec Sonata case with the standard 380w PSU. All at stock. I have tried some mild overclocking but without much success on the stability front.
Supreme Commander is a beast! I think I have several options in order to play this game. I will reinstall windows and update all drivers at the weekend to make sure the accumulated detritus of the last 2 years is cleaned away
1. Keep this PC and buy a new carlos fandango one! Estimated cost £1500
2. ‘Core’ upgrade of CPU, Mobo. However this will need a new gfx card also as current board is AGP and possibly new RAM. Estimated cost £850
3. Drop an AMD x2 4600 in. A ‘dead end’ upgrade but an upgrade none the less. Cost £200
I am leaning towards options 1 or 3 at the moment.
My question is: will the 200 quid for a new cpu actually make any significant difference or am I simply flogging a dead horse?
