I'm looking to upgrade my PC to improve performance in my fave game Battlefield 2. My machine runs it ok at moderate settings but I think I can upgrade to max it out for not much cash.

My budget is £200 ( I might push it a bit if it'll make a big difference)

Current spec is an Opteron running at 2.4ghz
2gb ram
74gb Raptor as primary disk with a 300gb Maxtor secondary
256mb ATi x800gto2 flashed to an x850.

My question is, for the money would it be better to spend it on cpu, mobo and ram or get a nice shiny 3850 and save my cash?

cheers
Jon

Graphics card is the slowest part of that system by a country mile. Have a spare pair of pants ready when you first put that new card in, that's quite an upgrade :)

running bf2 on max, 8x AA @ 1680*1050..... prob is sometimes i get worst frame rates then crysis on maps like like al basrah. (PR mod). but usually its like 90-100DFPS, and i know my mobo/cpu/ram suck so the 8800 really rocks

If your an ATI fan then the HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT 512MB GDDR4 would be a good choice ;)

I think these bad boys come in a bit cheaper than the 8800's as well, gonna get 2 in the new year...

or am I going for 2 of the 3850's, haven't decided yet

jont999, what's you're handle on BF2?

So I can look out for you down the barrel of mi rifle

I shouldnt need to remind you, that posting on forums while your supposed to be working is gross misconduct.

haha, damn you guys are going to bankrupt me....but it might be worth it!

MM, my handle on there is BlackTarw...be careful I'm a sneaky bugger ;)

"256mb ATi x800gto2 flashed to an x850."

Is that AGP or PCIe ?

it was a PCI-E only card.

really in terms of price to perfomance there are only 3 contenders, an ATi 3850 Pro £93.99

Ati 3870 XT £132.50 inc. VAT (not from ocuk, they are £30 extra here :( )

or a club3D 8800GT 512mb £145 inc vat but again not from ocuk :(
