Hi, my current setup is as follows -

A8N-SLI mobo
Geforce 7800GTX card
2Gb DDR Ram
A64 3500 CPU

Without changing the mobo, is there any CPU that would be a worthwhile performance increase over what I have at present?

I had a look at this chip - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-181-AM - would the difference be noticeable?

I rarely play games so do not need a top-spec rig but would like something that pushes Vista along a bit faster. If I do have to change my mobo (and then I expect Id need to change the Ram) then I would consider it, with a £500 or so budget.

don't think the upgrade would be noticable enough imho.

if you plan to upgrade you should be ok to go for the conroe processors/mobo and memory.

there are motherboards that take ddr/ddr2 memory so you could use that and save on the memory.

Thats a great idea, I didnt really want to replace my memory as (at the time) it was top spec Corsair, with that in mind Id be more than happy to purchase a new CPU & Mobo.

Looking on the OCUK pages though, I cant see any 975X chipset mobos that support DDR1 as well as DDR2, are you able to advise where you have seen this?

Generally I dont overclock, my CPU purchase is made based on however much I budget for and the fastest I can get for that price, so for £200 Im looking at this - Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-128-IN - any thoughts?

This is a great CPU even when it is not overclocked. This also means that you do not have to go for an expensive OC-able mobo, thus reducing your budget further.
