hi all,

Looking at what needs upgrading on my PC to enable good VR sim racing at high levels. I expect board, cpu, ram and graphics card do

Current spec
  • CPU – Intel i5 (4th Gen)
  • Memory – Corsair Vengeance – 16GB DDR3 1333Mhz
  • Motherboard – Asus H81m-plus
  • GFX – ASUS Nvidia GTX 970 4GB
  • 1 x 256GB SSD, & 1 x 512 SSD
  • Corsair Carbide Custom PC Case
  • Corsair 750W PSU

Only good to keep is case, PSU and SSD's.

Any tips for which bundle to get, around the 1k mark?

thanks

What's racing games ?
Intel still has lead in most due to higher single/dual core speed ...
Natural step would be Ryzen 8 cores to double your count but most racing sins via review is that after 4 cores 8 threads you'll see little gain from 6 cores/12 threads upwards. Hopefully will change with future games !
Lot of VR head sets also lower Res then 1440p monitor so CPU and GPU bound .

But seeing as you haven't got an unlocked intel nor Z87 can't simple slap in second hand i7 and overclock it :(

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Thank you both.

AC, Project Cars 2 and iracing at some point

will take a look at those specs. Work out the difference between the RTX and RX

PC2 does use CPU cores well :) You;d least see a pump with current GPU with high volume of cars

this is on a gtx 1080, which is a lot more powerful then your 970 and then a 2070 Super more so!

Expect to see over 90 fps at 1080p and 80 fps at 1440p

with AC

4 Fast cores ! This is with 9900K so frame rates would be higher then 3700x as above but 3700x isn't a slouch . See Hyper threading/ SMT (amd) Does little for the game

just purely the fact 3600 would be the budget choice over 3700x, just personally would have to double my core count if i was upgrading

Personally would go with Aorus Elite
Or same price Gaming X

But would rather put in money on GPU with 8 core. As listed above, 6 cores wouldnt be used

Gigabyte RTX and RX cards on sale now too
