Upgrade For Wow

I wouldn't crossfire cards for wow as the game doesn't support crossfire. You are better off with a 5850 or 5870 mate. Your memory is more than enough. Also, get ur cpu to 3.6 if you can :D
 
Your computer specs should more than eat WOW no problem, as many have stated above for internet client based games, overclock the CPU a little further if you can. Only other improvement you could probably go for is an SSD, super fast instance loading :).
 
I have a much older system than yours and have also experienced drops in fps. I then cleaned my system again (like a few people suggested above) making sure there are nothing starting up that I don't need. I also use Gamebooster to shut down any processes not needed while running the game and make sure my anti virus is in silent mode as this can have a major impact if it starts doing its thing while playing. I have since even upgraded to a 22" and now running without any problems.
 
I'm going with those who've posted that your system should be destroying WoW. If that's really all you're playing you might be better off saving your money toward the i7 upgrade (or even beyond) when you finally feel the need.

Have you tried a format and reinstall of everything (you can backup your WoW folder and it will run fine, save you redownloading it all - it's what I used to do)?
 
I believe WoW needs a really good ISP with high speeds. I should think your current spec would destroy WoW tbh. Do you get good fps in Org? I find as soon as i hit Dalaran the fps go down down down!
 
ISP's are much the same really its down to your line which is always BT's fault :) There are some guides on the wow forums for upping FPS but just load latest drivers and clear out all your addons or atleast make sure they are up to date.

Overclocked my cpu a bit more to 3570 Mhz. Will try more but that was only a quick overclock. Didnt notice any difference.

When wow is running and ive got media centre sometimes open plus other stuff, Im using around 3 - 3.25 GB of ram. Do you think upgrading to 8gb would have any boost in performance?

Using an Acer G24 (1920 x 1200) and a 19" Samsung as second monitor (1280 x 1024)


I Run the game @ 1920 x 1200 with all settings maxxed apart from shadows, they are 1 or 2 down (ruin fps outside)


Any ideas? Would a new graphics card help at all?

Nothing you upgrade on your machine is going to make any noticeable difference to your WoW performance.
 
I'm running WoW on an Asus T3 P5G31A. Q8400. HD 4670. 4GB DDR2 800. 1920x1080. 4x multisample. All the effects set to high, except shadow which is set to low. I get 60FPS most of the time. Dalaran gives me around 40FPS and it takes a couple of seconds for NPCs/Other players to appear and be rendered when I HS in. I ran Molten Core for the first time with about 10 other players and the only time my card choked was at the boss when he started to flare up. Then it dropped to 10FPS.

Reducing the multisample, the view distance and shadows will improve your FPS. It's all down to how much "OH MY GOD I WANT TO BE IMMERSED IN THIS WORLD" you're willing to sacrifice for stuttering/lumpy free playing.

That said, I'm not looking forward to Cataclysm and what they have planned to tax CPU and GPU even harder. I think I might upgrade to a 4890... if I can fit one in this case.
 
WoW only uses 2 threads by default, the official forums are blocked here at work but have a look here. It tells you how to allow WoW to use more threads. It might provide quite a big boost on your 9550 if you havn't done it already.

Nice find. I've modified it to "15", but see no noticeable benefits in FPS on a Q8400. I see a lot of talk about physical / logical cores, I assume that's in relation to HTT? Which Core 2 doesn't have, right? So "15" would be the setting for a C2Q, to use whichever Cores it choose (but still only two at a time) whereas for things like Core i's that reintroduce HTT, setting "255" will allow WoW to use any two of the four cores and four hyperthreads?

Sorry if this is all wrong, but it's something I'm completely new to.
 
I've only got a dual atm so I've not tried it. I've just looked into a little more depth on the forums though and it seems that wow is split into various threads but 2 of these threads contain almost the entire workload. What you are doing is telling wow that you have 2 more cores so it can move the main 2 threads to the less busy cores and spread the remaining few bits across all 4 if it wants. I'ts still essentially running on 2 cores but it can use the second 2 cores if they are less busy rather than being forced to run on the first 2.
