Don't upgrade. You have a brilliant cpu already which will last you for many years
. I recently upgraded to Q6600 which is slow compared to your's i7 and which I am keeping for several years

Definitely not. With reasonable cooling (Megahalems/H70), you should be able to hit 3.8ghz easily enough on your 860. I'm not planning on upgrading mine before late 2012, which will be about the 3 year mark.

More importantly, why is your i7 at stock? Even worse because you have a Maximus Formula lll. Get it clocked and set it free.
