I have a 5950X and 64GB (4*16GB TeamGroup) @ 1867. Currently running on a 32" display 2560*1440 but I am looking to increase to something like a 37" or higher.
If you're planning to stay at 1440p with that CPU, I'd be strongly inclined toward the 9070 non-XT @ £480.
Reason being, under £500 is a more attractive price for a higher-end card, the 5950X will hold the card back a little (in some scenarios, depends on the game) and it still has plenty of grunt for 1440p, along with support for newer features like FSR4.
That said, if you're going to up the resolution to 4K, then the CPU will hold the card back less and there's a bigger need for the extra frames (even though the 9070 XT isn't that much faster, around ~10%).
I want to ensure I am future-proofing myself but don't want to go over the top so if the XFX or Prime would be better I am open to those options.
Personally, i find it hard to consider any of these cards future proof, which is one of the reasons I don't want to pay much.
The 9070/9070 XT do have much improved ray tracing and upscaling over prior RDNA cards, which is as "future proof" as you can get right now. But, in the longer-term, I'm not sure where graphics are going to go.
If we move into heavier ray tracing at some point, then every card out now (apart from maybe the 5090) is going to be unplayable at high resolutions in the latest games. The same goes for upscaling and AI, where will it end? it is already looking like previous gen AMD cards are getting shafted there (either due to lack of the hardware, lack of driver/software support, or both) and if this tech gets much more sophisticated it could see a larger potion of the die space allocated to it and new extensions.
