Is it worth upgrading from a 4770k ? If so what to ?

Not sure whether to keep the processor and upgrad to 16Gb DDR3, a 1070 GTX, and an SSD.

I've just listed my 4770k for a RyZen 1700, apparently they are similar in IPC but it's doubled my core count. Also gone to DDR4 ram, I had the 4770k with a 1070 and 2400mhz ram and it was decent in games but I would get occasional hitching in some games which is a known issue with i7's.

Run it on a Samsung SSD, but now moving to a Samsung M2 SSD which should make it even snappier.

Hopefully the RyZen 1700 will fix the hitching, waiting on my motherboard to turn up to find out.

It being worth it or not depends on what you use it for. In my opinion, and from what I have seen, an upgrade to a 6/8 core CPU wont make a night and day difference in games, especially when playing 1440p where you are GPU bound. Your frame rates will increase, but not hugely. It will help minimum frame rates though which may be more noticeable.

Production stuff like rendering and encoding, then you will see a huge difference.

I went to a 1700 from mine and it's been worth the jump for me (granted I got it before ddr4 decided to have your pants down) FPS hasn't seen any massive gains but smoothness and being able to run more things whilst gaming has been a benefit.

What additional workloads do you do whilst gaming ? I wonder what the 0.1% are 1700 vs 4770k

I play a lot of MMORPG's, on my 4770k it was a hassle alt tabbing to watch a boss strat video or check some info online, just seemed slow, with the Ryzen im pretty confident that it will be much faster, tempted to run a 2nd monitor now so i can just have one loaded with the bits i need while im raiding or whatnot, as im 99% sure that it will have zero impact on overall performance where as the 4770k im fairly certain would struggle a little.
