Hi all.

Been out the loop on what are the good cards now days lol

I was think if I upgraded to something better then the 5870 what would it cost?

I would like 2 or 4GB vram as 1GB in my games if not enough.

Thank you for any advice you can give me.

What kind fo budget do you have to spend?

A 7950 or a 670 would be a massive upgrade. I went from a 2Gb 5870 to my 670, and it's about twice as powerful.

Whats the rest of your system?

Hi and thanks.

Budget would be £200 maybe more if I need to.

I have in my system
AMD 955 @3.6
4GB ddr3 1600
OCZ 600w psu
500GB HD
Dvd drive
Titan fenrir X'mas Cooler
cooler master CM-690 II Advanced case.
Monitor 24" 1080p
Thanks.

7850 2gb would be plenty, the 7950 market is a mine field atm regarding reliability

I upgraded the same path,from a hot/loud/barely oc'able 5870 to a cool/silent and I mean totally silent and much higher overclocking 7850 and couldn't be happier

Well your options are:

£200 and under:

7850 or 7870

£200 and over:

660ti or 7950

If you don't think your going to be upgradig the cpu anytime soon then maybe save the money and get 7850 or 7870.

However you can get a 7950 at £240.

I'd wait, in a couple of weeks we should see the 770 and 780s launched, this may drive down the price of decent upgrade.

As others have said dont go 5870CF, aside from the multi GPU issues 1GB of vram isn't enough these days.

Personally I'd look at a 7970 or 7950.

My budget is max £250

The main reason for the upgrade would because of the Vram and I need more then 1GB now for most of my games.

I don't mind waiting a little bit or used goods on mm as well :)

Thank you all.

If you want to spend all your budget the best card at £250 and under is the 7950.

any of these three would be good:

HIS

Sapphire

Sapphire Vapor-X

Thanks all I think I will go with the Sapphire HD 7950.

I will wait little longer on the new set of card coming and see if the prices drops a little more :)

Cheers.

The problem with 5870CF is that lack of VRAM, its really not enough for modern titles.

I usually go with FXAA because of that even though it's pulling 60fps constant on BF3 maps with 64 players. Unless the screen is filled with smoke that you cannot see a thing, it drops to 30. Once that clears rapidly it's shot back to 60. Only a smoke filled screen seems to kill it.

Faster cpu would be a long way off yet but I was thinking just save up some more and get new system later in the year.
Then you might as well keep saving up money for now, and then get a HD8000 series card together with a platform/CPU upgrade toward the end of the year.

Your current CPU would be a bottleneck, that even upgrading to a 7850 would give you the full performance advantage...let alone faster cards like 7950. In fact even your 5870 would get bottlenecked by your CPU in some CPU demanding games.

Grab a 7870 sapphire 2.0 in sure the chip in that overclocks easily to a 7950.

Or I'd grab a gtx 660.
