Bit of a novice here and unsure if a should upgrade. I have 2 6600gt's but at the moment unable to get sli working, think i need to update the bios for my asus an8-sli deluxe. However thinking of selling both 6600gt's (should be able to about £100-120) and buy a 7900gt, currently about £240 at ocuk. Will the 7900gt be a big improvement over 2 6600gt's in sli if i can get them working. Also my cpu is only a 3000 winnie oc'd to 2.0 will this hold the system back?

Thanks in advance

Many thanks, thinks I will have to get saving. Would like to get the sli working in ther mean time. Followed Nvidia guide from their website, removed and reinstalled all the drivers and got the sli capable system message but on the restart windows flashes a blue screen and wont boot. As I said think I need to update the bios and possibly the nforce drivers (haven't updated any since got the mobo). Anybody got any other suggestions?

Mine is MSI, so frustating isn't it? Like I said think it could be a bios and Nforce driver issue, just need to find the time to do it, child and wedding plans take care of that.

ye definately get a 7900gt. im doing the same selling my 6600's and getting one! as for the sli, have u tried removing one of the cards, uninstalling + reinstalling the drivers to get one card working, then put the second card back in and seeing if that helps?

just a suggestion - also check that sli is enabled in the bios and also in the 6600 properties box in windows

Interesting post, as ive got 2x6600gt's in SLI at the moment(MSI ones) I can get the SLI working properly. (You made sure the bridge is connected correctly etc?) Unfortunately the fan on one of the cards stopped the other day when I was playing Oblivion.. the alarm went off once the core had hit 127 degrees. Ive kinda fixed the card, by replacing the fan with an old cpu fan, and the temps are keeping stable at about 5 degrees warmer than the working card. However Oblivion keeps crashing now, so I think the card has been damaged :( So im thinking of getting a new GPU to replace it. I'd considered the 7800gtx 256mb, or the 7900gt. Which would be better?

Tried all that (sli selector card, auto detect in the bios), computer runs fine with 1 card just refuses to work in sli, as i said earlier can get to the sli capable system message but when the computer needs to reboot windows doesn't play ball

Hi, Enabling SLI should not need any BIOS updates.
Have you tried the following
1.Click on the NVidia settings icon in system tray,
2.Click on Nvidia Display
3. Then click on your monitor name
4. This should bring up the box that enables you to check box to set system to SLI Mode

Hope this helps you :)

As said above, after getting the sli capable system message and restarting the machine as instructed by the Nvidia guide of the web, windows will not reboot, flashes a blue screen then just stops. On the few times windows has booted (thought my luck was in!!!) the option to enable sli in the Nvidia settings isn't there, although in device manager windows see's both graphics gards. Last resort is the bios and Nforce drivers.
