If I had £150+, I'd get a 1950 pro or a 2nd-hand 7900 GTO.

But now I want to consider some cheaper alternatives. I'm more than willing to buy second hand, and have been cruising e-Bay for days.

Whatever I get tho, I'd like it to be a significant upgrade from my 6800 GT. As I'm using a 20" WS, it has to be at least capable of 1280x1024 at medium settings. I'm not too bothered about AA/AF, as I've never used them having never had a powerful enough card to use them!

Question is, is a saving of £50 worth it, to have a 7800GTX (for example) instead of a 1950 pro? I could just keep delaying and delaying until DX10 mainstream cards are out, I guess :D

The reason for spending less on the GFX card, is that I'm now also looking at moving from my Opteron 146 to a E6300, which means new mobo and new RAM also, and that's about a month's wages for me!

Cheers!

Have you found a good price for a x1800XT 512? If you can get them for good money second hand, that might be the way to go.

edit - beaten to it! Great minds think alike! :D

So far, I've seen the X1800XT going from £125 all the way up to £200. Ebayers are so unpredictable ;)

On the whole, how do MM prices compare (to something like e-Bay)?

e-bay is in many cases a rip-off and people bid for mates to bump up the price so only bid what you believe to be a fair price....

Members market is honest and true and a great place to buy sell your goods.

Only 199 posts to go :D

Yes, I'm very cautious about e-Bay since losing £100 on a phone which died after a couple months. Since then I've only bought low-cost items from e-Bay.
