Upgrade from 6850

Depends how much you want to be "wow"ed by your upgrade. I'm holding out for a 7950 in the Jan sales ;) (coming from a GTX460, which has identical performance to your 6850).

Wowed? Tbh there isn't that much I can't max at 1080p as it is, except The Witcher 2, would a 7950 + 3570k max that? :p

Also, January sales? You mean post-Christmas sales or does OcUK have a sale in January? :p

I'd like the GPU to be quiet though, as my 3570k has a very quiet cooler.

It's over budget, but a 7950's probably your best bet, considering they come with 3 decent games though, Hitman Absolution, Farcry 3 and Sleeping Dogs, so if you're looking to get any of those, it'd be a win-win.

any new rumor on release date of ati's next cards?
is it looking mid jan or a bit later than that?

i get the feeling its going to be later as they are kinda winning right now but i hope not ><

I do mean post-Christmas sales ;)

Sounds like your requirements are the same as mine. The HIS IceQ 7950 is supposed to be nice and quiet, and if that comes down to about £200 in the sales it would be a no-brainer purchase :)

If you drop down the price ladder a 7850 is about 30-50% faster than what you have; potentially more with an overclock. Given that you could probably sell your 6850 for £50, that would leave you with a new GPU for about £110.

June 2013 or later.

Preferable : stretch to / wait for a 7950 - seeing as we're so close to Christmas / end of year now.

Not so preferable (buying now) : 7850 / 660.

Let's pray they drop then. ;) Do you think OcUK will drop their prices post-crimbo? Love buying from here. :D

Seems like a no brainer then, will wait to see what the 7950's are like next year. :)
