Upgrade from 6870?

Hi,

Got the above on release a couple of years ago and getting that upgrade itch again What would be worth upgrading too? Main criteria are that it fits in my case (think the above is 9.5" and there's not much more room than that) and runs a bit cooler/quieter. I currently have the sapphire 6870 which came with the stock AMD cooler/fan and it's pretty damn noisy once it spins up.

Would be paired up with a 2500k and running at 1650*1080 but I might upgrade the screen to a 1920 jobbie. Any thoughts? Budget not really an issue but I'm not sure I can justify those £300-400 cards as they mainly just produce lots more heat/noise I think and probably more than I need at those resolutions?

7850/7950? anything else is silly money territory imo

I think the third link down would meet your space requirements, though I'm not totally certain about the others.

Thanks for the quick replies. Is the 7850 enough of a step up from the 6870 to be worth it? Guessing a 7950 wouldn't fit?

7950 is the same size? not at stock for the 7850 but overclocked then yes youd notice,even more so with the temps/fan noise/low power draw

I upgraded from 6870 to 7950, very big upgrade - recommended.

Are the 7950 and 6870 the same size can you remember?

Hmm, I think so...

The 7950 might be an inch or so longer, but then again they may be the same.
