I have ordered a MSI GTX 660 2GB Black Knight to replace my 6870 1GB, will this be a big improvement?

Bearing in mind I have a Q6600 @ 3.4GHZ and 4GB DDR 2 ram.

I am now wondering if I should pay a bit more for the GTX 760...but then I'm not sure if I will have a very inbalanced system since I have a older cpu.

I would like to play games on high or maxed with some games @ 1080p with perhaps 2x aa enabled.

So would the GTX 660 be a good choice or should I cancel my order and get the GTX 760 which I have seen for £190 including delivery?

Thanks and merry christmas :)

A big improvement according to this :

If it's of any use, I had the same cpu (also clocked to 3.4) with an overclocked GTX480 (running extremely close to stock 580 speeds), and although it was held back a little I was surprised at how well my system coped with recent titles (a very noticeable boost from my previous card - a 4870X2 - even when both gpu cores were in evidence). In the end, it was only the odd mod that was taxing it a bit too much, such as a Doom 3 graphically intensive mod / very heavy stalker mod where only one cpu core was really getting worked due to the engine limitation. I also had an overclocked GTX570 (as a replacement for the 480 RMA), and that was a very similar scenario to the first.

I would say that the 660 will be a touch faster than a stock 480 / 570, so you should be fine. I'd see how it performs first; you can always dsr it if you want.
