Been a long while since I looked at this part of the market. It seems to offer a bigger range..confusion...than ever before.

I'm not a big gamer but want a card to update my 7300GT. Why ? Well its a few years old and I like to keep just behind the curve when I can and I might play some more serious games later on also I'm adding more memory in my PC at the same time. Hopefully to add some performance. So, low level gaming, watch a lot of You Tube and DVDs...just a decent quality card around £75 - £100. Not used ATI before but the 4890 gets recommended a lot but its a tad over budget and bearing in mind my 7300GT is OK I'm not sure I need a "giant" step up.

I know this is a common boring old question but there really is just too much to choose from....

whats the rest of your spec:

cpu,psu etc

Also what res will you be playing at?

And as reflux said a 4670 or a 9800gt are good choices as aything higher is likly to be bottlenecked by your cpu or draw too much power from your psu.

Quick responses...thank you.

Looked at both cards and eitherr looks the ideal choice. Torn between upgrading my PC....but I don't do heavy stuff on it to be honest and thought I would increase memory to 4GB and put a decent graphics card upgrade as the first step. Normally I just go for the whole shop and car park but having loaded Windows 7 I am already seeing faster bootups and other small increases in performance and functionality that are making me hesitate. I figure my current rig...with more memory and graphics upgrade will do the job for a while longer....? My monitor os set at 1680 x 1050...its an excellent Samsung 22" Syncmaster 2243 widescreen.....

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.2ghz
2 GB (3200) 400 mhz ram
Nvidia Geforce 7300 GT 1gb
2 x 500 Gb Samsung H/Drives
Antec Tower
Antec 750w PSU

Is that running AGP or pci-e?

If the latter the 9800gt eco/ 4850 1024mb / GTS 250 1024mb would all be excellent upgrades.
