upgrade from 7800GTX(256mb) to 7900GTX(???mb)

Ive been looking for comparison websites but no luck.

How much better is the newer card, and could somone translate that into a percentage or FPS gain in say a HL2 game.

Its a faster card but depending on the res you play might not be worth the upgrade.

ah yes ill give you some info.

i use a 21" CRT Eizo monitor

Playing at 1280x960 - Anything more than this i personaly think is getting too jerky. Take DOD:S for example in 1600x1200 its about 30 fps - peak at 60fps.
I cant play like that.

I also still only have 1gb of DDR 400

The 7800GTX is still a fantastic card, and I'd wait until prices drop before buying a 7900GTX were I in your shoes, or you're just not going to get your money's worth.

Alternatively, that 7800GTX will easily last until DirectX 10 titles start coming out.

Whats the rest of your system because my X850XTPE runs HL2 smoothly at 1600x1200 so yours should too

thats HL2, my x1800xt struggles to run dod:s as he mentioned at 16x12 at decent frames constantly 50~

oh i havent had any problems with dod. do you have 2gb ram? perhaps that helps or i have my settings lower? ill check

nope i have everything on max and full AA/AF. Perhaps 2GB ram is needed then
