As the title I guess.......

My new machine is as my signature.

I'd not used my previous machine for gaming for a while and was not sure whether I would get back into it the way I used to be when I put the new bits together.

I have.....................:D

I want to upgrade my 2 XFX Extreme Edition 7800GTX's but I don't know where to go.

How does the 8800GTX in SLi (my board will take 3 way SLI - I'm not saying I'm going to do but it's there) compare to what I have now.

From what I'm reading it would appear to be a fairly good step up??

Or would I be better waiting until the 9800 GX2 or Ultra (or whatever Nvidia name it) and get 2 (or 3:eek:) of them.

Without sounding like I'm being big headed, the money is not an issue (whopper bonus coming in 6 weeks). I just want good performance.

That said, I'm not stupid, if the difference in price between 2 x 8800 GTX's and 2 x 9800 GX2 is massive and the performance difference isn't I'll get the 8800's. If the performance of the 9800's is a lot better, maybe, the price hike I can justify!

What do people think???

Games I play include Crysis, COD4, Bioshock, WOW among others

Thanks

D

2*8800gtx will wipe the floor with 2*7800gtx (especially if they are 256meg versions). If I was looking to spend a lot on my pc that'd be my first port of call.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The 7800GTX's are the 256 versions.

I am defiintely going to change them for something, just not sure what yet.

I'm really curious about the new 9800 and whatever the 8800GTX equivalent model will be, keep hearing rumours that it may be 30 - 40% better than a 8800GTX?

However, the 8800GTX is tempting as I could get a pair of the OCUK ones for £452.00 at the moment.

Maybe I should wait?

Not sure tbh!!

I'd probably go with a single 8800GTX for now, and upgrade again in a year.

The 8800GTX has been out for ages, I'd be more interested in spending my cash when the refresh comes around.

To be honest I think I'll sit tight and wait for whatever the flagship will be and get one or two of them

The 7800GTXs still run most things (not including Crysis) to a semi respectable level.

I may as well keep the money that would go toward a stop gap card in the bank.

I'll have to make do replaying Far Cry and getting stuck into WOW and HL2 (again!).

When is the flagship/high end models due or is it still pie in the sky?

Thanks

for example, i used to have 2 7900gto at gtx speed in sli, i got a single 8800gts 640m and it was more or less same speed has the sli 7900gto, until i got to stupidly hi res, then the 7900gto where a bit quicker
