I need an upgrade from my 8600GTS. When I got the 8600GTS I was always intending it to be temporary. Three years later artefacts start showing up and I need a new card! My budget is in the region of £150, and if the trade off in performance isn't too great I would like to go below that.

Any of those cards would make a great upgrade for you; the 8600GTS was never great card to begin with so if you bought any of the cards linked you would think someone had stuck a twin rocket afterburner in your computer!

You might want to have a stroll around the Members market and see if you can pick up a 2nd hand HD5850 it might cost a bit more then £150 (say £160) but it would be well worth it IMO.

I was saying it was faster than the relevant ATI card - not the 460.

I am a big NV fan at the moment, so my money would go on the 460 without a blink, but you can get a good fps/£ with ATI.

The 4890 runs much hotter, and doesn't overclock as great. And as for "higher spec" (despite the lack of dx11 support)...did you mean it's faster? Then no it isn't:

Rubbish the HD4980 is famous amongst enthusiasts for it's overclocking credentials if I remember correctly it was the first card to have its core clocked beyond 1Ghz but it does run hot as do all these 2nd generation 55nm products so it might be worth trying to source one with a 3rd party cooler.

Obviously a fanboy as the 460 768mb (£120) is way better than the 5830.

I'd get a GTX 460 768mb if using a resolution less than 1920x1080. If you're using that or higher try to stretch for the GTX 460 1GB.

Just got the 460 in the mail this morning. I know the 8600GTS wasn't even a good card when it came out, but the difference between this and my 8600GTS is huge. Off to play more Civ V.
