Hi All,

I have not upgraded my PC in a very long time so my Socket 939 4800X2 is getting a bit old now!!

I was thinking of upgrading and thought this Phenom OC bundle looked pretty good. However as I am not into overclocking should I just get the components separately and save on the fan?

Also as I don't upgrade regularly I note that the bundle motherboard does not have any USB3 sockets where most other similar motherboards do, should I worry?

I have a ATI 4850 and a Corsair 650W power supply (more recent than the cpu!) and plenty of HDDs and DVDs so it is just the mb, cpu and ram I am looking for.

Any advice greatly apreciated! Thanks.

Hey,

I am upgrading from a similar 939 system. RJC has pointed out a very capable system at a very good price. All depends on what you can recylce too, that power supply should be adequate for now with that system.

Personally ime trying to go for a 1090T with an Asus Crosshair 4 but ime finding it difficult to decide when you have systems like RJC has so kindly pointed out! But from one struggling upgrader to another I wish you luck!

I upgraded from a 939 3800+ 3GB PC3200 to the rig in my sig 1055T gigabyte 890 mobo and OCZ gold 12800 DDR3. It must have cost about £350 for the parts quoted but I have had a bit of a splurge and added a hard drive, graphics card and PSU also since.

recommended, andy.

Thanks for the replies, RJC - that was pretty much what I had come up with, seems a very solid platform for under £300! I think I may go for that as I have always liked Asus motherboards plus it has USB3 (which I will probably never use!!).

When I looked at the motherboards though I chose the 880G over the 870, I thought for the extra few pounds could be useful, any thoughts?

Andy Jenx, I think that coming from 939 a quad core is more than enough really, I just don't see a need for the six core!

Nor did I, however for once I was not strapped for cash and spent the extra £50. The 890 chipset is good if you wanted to stretch that bit more.

You will find that 939 is still in demand and you should get £100+ for your parts

yeh 6 cores is pushing the boat out I suppose. Nobody can be future proof in this game but I may as well try!

Ultimately I would just like nkata's system haha, Hows that Lian Li case? I may be able to squeeze a bit more, for future reference, out of the 890 chipset and the 1090T so ile probably go for that.

Doesn't the 880G have intergrated graphics? If you can put the on board graphics to use then that board could be the one for you. However, if you get the 870 and keep your 4850 you will be laughing.

I was thinking of the onboard graphics as a backup if ever the 4850 died. Just assumed that 880 was better than 870, maybe wrong?

Make me an offer :D

Seriously I have been acquiring stuff that I like, case PSU etc. which should last several builds. The case is a bit old now but still cool running.

The GA890 has the HD4290 radeon graphics on board and it does work well, I used it until I had sold my old parts and then bought the 5750. My previous card was AGP so had to go.

It is, if the 880 has the sb850 southbridge, it will also support sata 6Gb/s. I tend to buy the current chipset where possible.

Yes the MB is 880/850, looks good to me.

Notice you have the viper memory, was looking at the corsair (as it is used in the OCUK bundle and it is a brand I trust) but it seems to be catering more for the intel side of things rather than AMD. Your memory states it is 100% tested with AMD, how do you find it?
