Hey guys.

Been playing arma 3 a lot and thinking a better CPU will help with the fps.

What would be a good upgrade for me CPU wise. Or am I worth waiting for something new ?

New cpu would mean a new mobo too, and tbh with the latest chips such as the 4790k, (which is the natural successor to the 2600k) the difference will be pretty small. Also, the Z97 haswell platform will be phased out by the end of this year to be replaced by Z107 and intels skylake.

Personally mate, if i was on an sb setup thats what id do. Ive been through ivybridge i5 and i7, haswell 4770k and now 4790k. The gains have been very small tbh.

I play a lot of ARMA and it's just poorly optimised, it's not multithreaded particularly well (think it only really uses 2 cores) so a fast 2600k will be as good as anything else.

I moved from a 2500k clocked at 4.4 to sig specs (needed to as the Mrs Machine required an upgrade).

I've not seen any real difference. Save you money Jimlad and wait it out.

Sensible I'm doing the same. There last few generations of CPU have been pretty underwhelming post Sandybridge, a few percent better IPC but don't clock any better, or worse even.

This tbh, i found the 4770k at 4.2 matched my old 3770k at 4.5. The 4790k is basically a hotter running haswell chip with a higher stock turbo speed.

Ha i'm literally in the exact same position, promised my bro a PC so will be giving him the 2500k etc and have ordered the 4690k/Ranger... nvm! Can't make him wait another 6 months lol :p

I was going to say the same. I loved my 2500k & 2600k but took the plunge as I'd made some cash from selling old bits.

The 4790k I've got is impressive (4.7ghz @ 1.23v). It's good if you can wait but it'll be just as good if you didnt!

the 2600k is more than capable still you wont NEED to upgrade it for at least another 3 years.

Look at the people still running i7 920/930's still no point in upgrading really when it comes to gaming

As above, there's nothing really worth moving to. I only replaced my 2700K as my motherboard died, and there's very little difference between my old and new builds.
