Ok gents I am waaaay behind on graphic cards these days so forgive me. I have a Sapphire 390X 8GB which I have had for a little over 2 years. I have £300 so what can that buy me in this day and age that is an upgrade from the above card. AMD or Nvidia, not fussed.

2nd hand 980 or 1070 to be honest. The 1060 or RX480/580 aren't really a massive step up, and I don't think you'll find anything else worthwhile in budget.

Vega/1070ti/1080 are out on budget alone.

I still see the sub £300 1060 and RX580 as a "sidegrade", as they are although may be faster, they are still more or less in the same performance league as the 390x.

IMO the 1080Ti is the only card that's a significant upgrade, but the pricing is up at the ceiling.

Hmmm cheers gents, why are cards so dang expensive these days

I'll take a look at the 980 TI (cheers Tommy / Alex) but failing that I will have to keep saving until I run this one into the ground.

Keep in mind he's referring to 2nd hand 980Ti though...and also EOL Nvidia cards generally don't get much (if any) performance optimisations for newer games are release after the card became EOL.

Sadly the 970/390 tier prices have been taken by the 1060/580 and the Vega56/1070 which are essentially 390X replacements are a fair bit higher nowadays and not more than 30%-40% extra performance. I'm still waiting to see if a worthy successor to the 390 comes in below £400 this year.
