Hey guys, need some opinions from you fine gents :)

Looking to upgrade my 6870 to something with a bit more kick and that will run everything for a good while, but also!

looking to get into the 3d side of things probably august so, need a card that will allow me to do this along with watching movies etc,

Budget will be about £200 (maybe a bit more if i can sell the 6870 on) and ive no preference in either Nvidia or AMD, it will also Have to be able to run on a xfx xxx 650w Psu.

Thanks in advance :)

HD7850. If you overclock it (and it is an overclockable beast) then you can obtain excellent levels of performance for the money.

AMD 3D is a little different to nVidia 3D in implementation but remember you're rendering two images so any frame rate you get in 2D will be halved in 3D. This means you may need to sacrifice a setting or two while gaming in 3D.

You should be able to sell the 6870 on for a decent amount and if you can stretch a little more then the nVidia 670 would be an excellent buy although then you have to pay extra for 3D unfortunately via a nVidia 3D Vision Kit.

thats probably what i was looking towards, altho there is a nice little 6970 on offer this week for £191.99 which outperforms the 7850, but i dont think are as effiecient.

i was also looking at the samsung 3d monitor which in the description has a mode built in that switches 2d to 3d without the 3d vision kit? or do i still need one if i went nvidia

The only reason to go for a 6970 would be if you are totally incapable of pushing two sliders in the Amd Control Panel/Afterburner.

The 7850 is crying out to be overclocked, when it is it will surpass the 6970.

The built in 3D has a zero impact in fps as it's done on-board the monitor, it is ok looking, it does a job but doesn't get remotely close to what can be achieved in Tridef(which I presume comes bundled with the monitor, it did with my 23" Sammy).

The upside of this is everything can be rendered in 3D that's output on the monitor.

Tridef works for both AMD and Nvidia but there is not much support for Nvida gpu's as they have 3D vision and Tridef is more or less funded by AMD.

Amd gpus have FS support(Frame Sequential=1920x1080p per eye) via Dual Link DVI or display port, where as Nvidia gpus only get SBS(Side By side which is half the screen per eye).

SBS can be enabled instead of FS in AMD as well if performance is an issue giving less of a hit in fps, with less visual quality of FS.

Fps performance vary's per title as well, some have a minimal impact, but others have a huge overhead, but the effects can be stunning.

So you are recommending the 7850? I'm not really big on over locking the gpu, don't really know what to do haha but I can learn quick enough :-) is there any specific one that's a stand out BUY ME would you say? Great explanation of the Samsung monitor too, it is the 3d 23" one I was looking at and you made it pretty appealing lol
